Diversified activities required for Consumer Protection Association

Khanh Hoa Provincial Consumer Protection Association has held many activities to protect consumers' rights. However, many things remain to be done to meet the social requirement and expectation.

Khanh Hoa Consumer Protection Association in association with local authorities and organizations, market management boards and Vinamilk Corporation has propagated the Consumer Protection Law to local residents as well as provided consumer advice and guidance via radio and television.

In addition, the association in cooperation with the Department of Industry & Trade has hung banners to mark the World Consumer Rights Day 2013, promoting the basic rights of all consumers, demanding that those rights are respected and protected.

Shoppers have rights to complain and gain redress for faulty services.

Since the beginning of the year, 6 courses on the consumer protection and health care have been held for over 1,300 employees and elderly people. The association has joined effort with market management boards to monitor price fluctuation and goods quality, preventing fraud and unfair practices.

Moreover, the association has helped consumers with complaints about the quality of beverage, electronical appliances, building materials, food stuff, etc.

"Khanh Hoa Consumer Protection Association is a reliable address for locals to report unfair or fraudulent business practices, so that consumers will be provided ways to protect their own rights," says Nguyen Thi Hoa, Van Thang Ward, Nha Trang City.

According to Nguyen Trong Tin, Vinh Hai Ward, Nha Trang City,  the Consumer Protection Association is very helpful to consumers, but it is still unknown to many locals.

Nguyen Thi Trang, the vice chairperson of the association, says reasons for shoppers' reluctance to report their complaints include ignorance of the consumer law, thinking they will have to pay fees, the suing will take much time, etc. In fact, under this law, a consumer can file his complaint about faulty goods and services without paying any court fees.

Therefore, more propaganda is required to raise public awareness of the Consumer Protection Association, where locals can get help with consumer problems.

The Consumer Protection Association is working with Khanh Hoa People’s Committee for proposal to establish Consumer Protection Association affiliations to facilitate the access of locals, especially those in remote areas, to the services.
