In spite of a ban on the discharge of garbage, aquaculture and hunting on Nha Trang Bay, illegal trapping of lobsters has still occurred in this area. Nha Trang City People’s Committee has made great effort to stop the violating practices for the protection of marine resources and sustainable tourism development.
500 km2 Nha Trang Bay boasts diverse marine resources including coral reefs and beautiful sceneries. The bay is home to numerous coral species as well as aquatic creatures.

Unplanned aquaculture and harvesting expansion has had bad effects on the biodiversity of Nha Trang Bay as well as on the local tourism.
Illegal lobster traps can be found in the waters from Vinh Truong Ward to Vinh Luong Commune and some islands of Vinh Nguyen Ward.
The illegal lobstering is harmful to the marine environment and the tourism industry on Nha Trang Bay. In addition, it may obstruct the traveling of tourist ships in this area.
Therefore, Nha Trang City People’s Committee every year implements many measures to prevent the activity.
A supervision mission containing 21 members from Nha Trang Bay Management Board, resources and environment officials, border police from local people’s committees, etc will conduct regular supervision trips, imposing strict controls and fines for violators.
From now to August, 2013, the inter-department mission will inspect series of examinations 4 times a month at the waters from Hon Ong Mount (Phuoc Dong) to Binh Cang Bay, Nha Phu Swamp (Vinh Luong) in an effort to prevent illegal lobstering.
Then, the supervision will remain twice a month till the end of the year.
Reportedly, along with the supervision, Nha Trang City authorities will focus on the law propaganda to raise public awareness of the restriction as well as provide support for job transfer.
