Nguyen Thi Nguyet Ha, Deputy Chief of the Sea & Island Bureau, Department of Natural Resources & Environment has given information about Vietnam Sea and Island Week celebration in Khanh Hoa Province.
The National Sea and Island Week takes place on June 1-8 annually to mark the World Environment Day (June 5) and the World Ocean Day (June 8). The theme of the Sea and Island Week 2013 is “Together we take action for the sea and islands of our homeland.”

This is a chance for Vietnam to confirm its marine economic potentials as well as its determination to boost the local marine industry and protect marine resources for sustainable development.
What atcvities are taking place in Khanh Hoa marking the Vietnam Sea and Island Week and the World Ocean Day?
Under the direction of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, the Department of Natural Resources & Environment has plans on propaganda to raise public awareness of the importance of sea and islands, Vietnam’s sovereignty over the Spratly and Paracel Islands and community activities.
Besides, other activities within the framework of Sea Festival 2013 include a workshop on marine resources and environment in Nha Trang Bay areas, cultivation of 2ha of mangrove in Dam Bay (Vinh Nguyen Ward, Nha Trang City) and hanging propaganda banners on main streets in Nha Trang on June 1 - 6.
What solutions to harmful impacts of aquaculture, fishing, tourism practice, transportation on the sea environment?
In the time to come, the Sea & Island Bureau will give suggestions on measures to implement the Decree No 25/2009/NĐ-CP, which provides important legal basis for general resources management and marine & island environment protection, cooperate with relevant agencies for better marine resources management and marine environment protection, etc.
