Disadvantaged children have had a chance to meet and express their ideas and aspirations at the “Listen to children” forum held in Khanh Son District.
The event was held by the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs in association with Khanh Son District People’s Committee.
150 children from SOS children’s villages, social service centers, education centers for disable children, etc. in Khanh Hoa Province joined the forum where they could open their minds and hearts to others.
They showed their ideas and hope for further support regarding to their education and recreation rights. Their suggestions included more schools and recreational parks for children in remote areas.
Living in difficult situations, the participants showed great sympathy for those in the same circumstances. Many said they had dreams to become teachers, doctors or caregivers, so that they could help many other unlucky children.
The forum was also a platform for children to exchange their knowledge in study, experience and effort to overcome difficulties in life.
They also had a chance to meet disadvantaged and orphan children who had overcome their complex about their situations and succeeded.
Especially, the children met Bui Ngoc Thinh, a blind boy honored by Vietnam Records Book Centre for being able to play 12 musical instruments.
Despite his blindness, he enjoyed life and fulfilled his passion for playing music.
Though his musical performance, he wanted to send a message that “In any circumstances, always try your best to reciprocate help and affection everyone has given us.”
Tran Thi Thanh Mai, Vice Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs, says, "The children’s forum is meaning. Adults can learn what children think, need and wish for, so that more efficient measures will be taken.
Children were also given knowledge to protect themselves from all forms of abuse. After the event, we will gather and have suggestions on child education and care."
The children’s forum 2013 promoted all the community to think about effective ways to bring children's dreams to life, helping them to live and study in a sound and safe environment.
