Khanh Hoa Rehabilitation-Education Center for Disabled Children in association with charity organizations and benefactors has supported surgery on many children with cleft lips and cleft palates.
A 4- year-old child in Xuan Son Commune, Van Ninh District used to have difficulty with eating because food and liquid went up her nose due to a cleft lip and cleft palate. She was uncomfortable and cried all the time.

Her parents used all her savings and a loan of over VND10 million to take her to the Children’s Hospital 2 in Ho Chi Minh City for a treatment. “However, we still didn’t have enough for her surgery to repair these defects,” her mother says.
Fortunately, Dr. Cao Viet Hung, 36 Thai Nguyen, Nha Trang City in association with Khanh Hoa General Hospital and Khanh Hoa Rehabilitation-Education Center for Disabled Children has given a cost-free reconstructive operation to the child. She is fine now thanks to the great support.
Another patient benefiting from the charity activity included an 11-year-old child in Xom Moi Village, Ninh Tay Commune, Ninh Hoa Town.
Her parents says, “My child was born with a cleft lip and cleft palate, but we could not afford the operation fee. We are so grateful to the cost-free reconstructive operation. She had a surgery in early 2013 thanks to the support of Dr. Cao Viet Hung, Khanh Hoa General Hospital and Khanh Hoa Rehabilitation-Education Center for Disabled Children.”
The two cases mentioned above are among hundreds of infants receiving financial support from the social organizations and benefactors.
Dr. Cao Viet Hung says, “We have just provided cleft lip and palate repair surgeries on 15 children with cleft lips and cleft palates. We are working to transform the future for children with facial deformities who used to be shunned, feared and ridiculed.”
Most of children with cleft lips and cleft palates used to benefit from free surgeries provided by Social Assistance Program for Vietnam (SAP-VN).
Between 2006 and 2012, the non-profit humanitarian organization provided reconstructive surgery on 300 children free of charge.
However, no financial support for cleft lip and palate repair surgeries on children in Khanh Hoa Province has been received from SAP-VN due to soaring hospital costs.
Dr. Cao Viet Hung is a benefactor who has given reconstructive surgery worth VND250 million on 15 children so far. Additional 30 children with cleft lips and cleft palates are still in need of operation.
More support from organizations and individuals and the community is required to bring smiles to the children.
