Ho Trong Phuong, Cam Phuoc Dong Commune, became a member of the Urgent Blood Donors’ Club in 2007 and he has donated blood 43 times so far.
Besides, he has also mobilized his relatives to join blood donation. 9 of his family members have donated blood 15 times or more.
On the third day of the new year 2003, an accident happened in Cam Ranh. Many were taken to hospital and there was insufficient blood supply. Cam Ranh Red Cross then mobilized its regular blood donors to the hospital to donate blood in a life-saving effort.
Bui Thi Luong, Deputy Chairperson of Cam Ranh City Red Cross says the Urgent Blood Donors’ Club is designed to save those in critical need of blood.
The Urgent Blood Donors’ Club has 20 members, up from initailly 5 people. Most of them have donated blood over 20 times. They are from all walks of life, farmers, workers, traders, etc. They are willing to donate blood when needed.
For them, giving blood is meaningful as they understand how it really means to patients when blood is available when they need it. They donate blood without asking anything in return.
Besides the Urgent Blood Donors’ Club, Cam Ranh Red Cross has founded AB Blood Donor Club and Platelet Donors' Club in an effort to raise effectiveness of blood donation campaigns and save more lives.
