Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung has agreed to the Justice Ministry’s proposal to posthumously confer the Honorary Citizen title on Dr. Alexandre Emile Jean for his great contributions.
Dr. Yersin was born in Switzerland in 1863. He moved to Vietnam in 1891 and spent his rest life in Nha Trang City.
He is well remembered as the co-discoverer of the bacillus responsible for the bubonic plague and the founder of Nha Trang Pasteur Institute.
