In spite of lack of funds for operation, Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly has inspired several members to join the social campaign “Old people setting good examples for the cause of the national construction and protection”.
The members have had chances to share their wealth of lifetime experience with younger generations, contributing to the local socio-economic growth.

84-year-old Truong Thi Ngoc Lan, Xuong Huan Ward, Nha Trang City is still enthusiastic with social work. She has joined the local police’s effort to convince drug addicts to get rid of their detestable habits, deal with addiction recovery and thus bring them to normal life.
73-year-old Pham Tru, Suoi Cat, Cam Lam District is one of the outstanding old people known for production efficiency. The hard work of Pham Tru and his children has made a 5ha land to become a fertile hill garden with mangoes Hoa Loc, Tai Tuong, Tu Quy, Australian mangoes attenuated with banana, rambutan and over 2ha of eucalyptus.
Besides, he has a farm of chicken, cows and black pigs, and creates frequent jobs for 10 people earning some VND4 million a month each.
The man has an income of over VND300 million a year. “In spite of old age, I still work as it is a good way to teach young people the value of labor,” he says.
According to Le Xuan Hanh, Chief of Khanh Hoa Provincial Representative Board of the Association for the Elderly, thousands of old people have joined the campaign “Old age, good examples in economic development”.
Out of 100,000 senior citizens, 2,000 are recognized to attain production efficiency; over 700 are owners of big-sized farms. They have all contributed greatly to the local cultural, socioeconomic development and security.
Over 90% of the elderly families have won the title “Example parents and grandparents”. They have also joined effort to propagandize laws to local residents.
Social care is required to enhance to promote their roles so that the elderly can stay active, both mentally and physically, and continue to make valuable contributions to their communities.
