Dr. Bui Xuan Minh.

The 2013 theme of the Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and the World AIDS Day (December 1) is “Getting to zero new HIV infections”.

This is  a great opportunity to raise public awareness of HIV, especially among venerable people and those in remote areas; enhance support from families and society for people living with HIV and HIV-infected people’s responsibility for their families and communities; promote and extend HIV testing, treatment and  care services, etc.

Could you please say something about the HIV/AIDS issue in Khanh Hoa over the past time?

HIV/AIDS epidemic in Vietnam in general and Khanh Hoa in particular has been under control. The number of people diagnosed with HIV has declined in the recent 5 years. However, some people have not been completely aware of HIV/AIDS yet.

The present high risk of HIV infection is among drug addicts during injection and prostitutors during sexual intercourses. Therefore, much more effort is required to stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.

What will the Department of Health do to get everyone involved in activities against HIV/AIDS on this important occasion?

Under the guideline of the Ministry of Health and Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, the Khanh Hoa Department of Health will hold various activities in response to the Action Month for HIV/AIDS Prevention and the World AIDS Day.

They will include parades, meetings and speeches on AIDS topics together with posters, banners and leaflets against HIV/AIDS.

Besides, the department cooperated with the mass media to provide information about HIV/AIDS. Moreover, meetings of HIV/AIDS Prevention & Control clubs and anti-HIV/AIDS contests will be organized to call for joint effort to eliminate new HIV infections, helping to stop the fatal epidemic.
