Hoang Thi Le Ha, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Science & Technology says under the direction of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee, the department in association with local agencies and communities has done scientific and technological tasks to serve local socio-economic development in Truong Sa District.
What are scientific priority fields in Truong Sa?
The provincial Department of Science & Technology in association with Region 4′s Naval High Command and Truong Sa District People’s Committee has held a mission, including management staff and scientists to carry out a survey of animal and plant breeders and environmental treatment on some islands in Truong Sa District.
After the trip, the department has made scientific suggestions approved by Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee and Vietnamese Naval Headquarter. Accordingly, the projects will focus on such fields as provision of suitable breeders, agricultural and fishery processing techniques, medicines, medical devices, environmental pollution treatment techniques, application of solar cooking and heating in island communes, etc.
What has the department done to implement the above tasks?
The department has worked with relevant agencies, Truong Sa District People’s Council and the provincial People’s Committee to discuss about cooperation, exchange and provision of information related to project investment and management of fund sources; responsibilities of agencies and communities inside and outside Khanh Hoa Province; suggestions on funds for implementation of socio-economic development tasks in Truong Sa District, etc.
The provincial Department of Agriculture & Rural Development has provided animal and plant breeders and given support to the local aquaculture and processing industry. The provincial Department of Environment & Natural Resources has supported water treatment and production; trash treatment; and mosquito and insect control.
The provincial Department of Health has offered medical equipment and medicine to soldiers and local residents on islands, fishermen frequently working on the islands, general practitioners, obstetricians, pediatricians, etc.
The provincial Department of Science & Technology has jointly made suggestions on application of scientific and technological achievements, including solar cooking and heating in Truong Sa District. The department has sent documents to departments of science & technology of other provinces and cities, some institutes and universities for cooperation in implementation of practical tasks to improve spiritual and material life in an effort to promote economic development and assure national security and defense in Truong Sa District.
What are results of tasks implemented recently in Truong Sa District and the plan for the future?
Since 2011, approved scientific subjects implemented in Truong Sa have included military information provision for medical corps on the Spratly Islands; Caulerpa lentillifera cultivation and processing technical transfer for residents and soldiers in Truong Sa District; “Emergency alert and voice communication” by Senior Lieutenant Colonel Le Viet Thanh, etc.
From 2014, there will be many socio-economic development projects such as “Researching, designing, manufacturing, testing and installing of automatic power charging adapters for VSAT stations on the Spratly Islands with a capital of VND350 million; animal and plant breeder support with VND2 billion allocated from the provincial People’s Council, etc.
