Besides, the contest drew the participation of Laotian students at Nha Trang University as well as soldiers and staff who had worked in border areas and on islands.
Each piece of writing was really a beautiful painting of Vietnamese homeland sea and islands. Many entries showed evidence of Vietnamese sovereignty over the Spratly and Paracel Islands with good knowledge about Vietnamese sea law and the State policies on East Sea issues. Some works stood out for their emotional and touching stories and memories.
The first individual prize went to Bui Xuan Bao Chau, 11B3 class, Hoa Van Thu High School (Nha Trang). She says, “I love sea and soldiers who have devoted to the national defense. I have received much support to my work from my teachers and especially my father, Senior Lieutenant-colonel Bui Xuan Gia to.” The writing by Bao Chau namely “I love the Spratly Islands very much” was so moving.
Reportedly, 100% of Youth Union members joined the contest. The third-prize winning work had 400 pages in 2 volumes with much information about the sea and islands.
Captain Dinh Quang Hung, Secretary of Khanh Hoa Provincial Communist Youth Union, 1 of the 3 authors says, “We looked for information from books, newspapers and on the internet. In addition, we took a trip to island communes to get real life information. Joining the contest is also a good way of education of political thoughts.”
Beside the writing, a ship model was created to bring Khanh Hoa police youth’s hope and enthusiasm to cadres and soldiers working on the Spratly Islands.
A good hand written letter by Nguyen Thi Huong, Economic Department, Nha Trang University was also impressive filled with great hope for stable development of the Spratly Islands. The story told by Lieutenant Ly Xuan Dieu (provincial Military Headquarters) was about a father joining a war to liberate the Spratly Islands in 1975 with moving emotions and wishes for his son to continue his career to protect the Spratly Islands.
The contest has raised people's awareness and knowledge of Vietnam’s marine strategy and its role in economic and in national construction and defense.
