Khanh Vinh District Social Service Center has been a home for unfortunate people for many years. They are brought up here with great care, understanding and love.
Buddhist nun Dieu An says, “I am also an orphan, so I am always thinking of trying to compensate for their unhappiness, helping them to have a better life. Since 2002, Dieu An has brought up over 30 orphans, old and homeless people.
Phan Thi Thi, Deputy Chairman of Ninh Ich Commune People’s Committee says, “What Phu Quang Pagoda has done for the society is worth praise. Over the past years, Phu Quang Pagoda has also taken the lead in study promotion in Khanh Hoa Province. In spite of financial difficulties, this place has brought great affection and support to unlucky people inside and outside Khanh Hoa Province.
According to Dieu An, knowledge is very important, as it allows them to advance to a better life. Therefore, besides providing meals and care for the needy, she has taken orphans to school. “Funds for their tuitions are donated by Buddhists and benefactors everywhere,” she says.
Thanks to the support of Buddhist nuns, many children have performed well at school. 2 have graduated from university, 4 are studying at senior high schools and others are at primary and junior high schools.
All of the children are aware of the importance of learning and thus they try their best to get good study results. Some students have won the Excellent Student Contest at town level.
The success of Phu Quang Pagoda has resulted from the effort and enthusiasm of Phu Quang Pagoda. The teacher at Phu Quang Pagoda is a Buddhist nun Dieu Nhu, an overseas student born in Ho Chi Minh City. Besides teaching foreign languages, including English and Russian, she also brings cultural knowledge to the children.
Dieu An confirms, "In spite of the lack of funds, we are happy with the hope that the vulnerable children will grow up well and overcome complex about their situations to integrate into society.”
