Red Spring Festival 2014 has just kicked off in many cities and provinces nationwide. The humanitarian blood donation drive was to provide clean blood for medical treatment and emergency.
Tran Nguyen Luong, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial Red Cross says to ensure the availability of safe blood for transfusion during and after Tet, the Khanh Hoa steering board of voluntary blood donation launched Red Spring Festival 2014 in Cam Ranh City and at Khanh Hoa Public Security in January.

Hundreds of donors joined the event, giving nearly 500 units of blood. Besides, since the beginning of the year, Khanh Hoa Red Cross in association with may institutions and communities such as Nha Trang National Ethnic Minority Pre-University School, Nha Trang Pasteur Institute, Ninh Hoa Town, Khanh Vinh District, Cam Lam District and Telecommunications University has mobilized thousands to join blood donation, collecting nearly 1,000 units of blood, 369 of which have been sent to the National Blood Transfusion & Hematology Institute.
As planned, from now to March 15, Khanh Hoa Red Cross will continue its cooperation with such local communities as Ninh Hoa Town, the districts of Cam Lam, Dien Khanh, Van Ninh and some schools to mobilize voluntary blood donation with 850 units of blood expected to be collected.
What are your comments on voluntary blood donation in Khanh Hoa? How has donated blood met demand for medical treatment and emergency in Khanh Hoa?
At present, mostly 100% blood used in medical treatment and emergency at hospitals in Khanh Hoa is from voluntary blood donors. In recent years, the blood donation campaign in Khanh Hoa has significantly developed with about 10,300 donors. 4 voluntary blood donation clubs for 4 main blood types A, B, O and AB have been founded.
In addition, Rhesus Factor (Rh) Blood Type Club has been formed by Khanh Hoa Blood Transfusion & Hematology Center and Urgent Blood Donor Club by Nha Trang City Women’s Association. Many schools have set up voluntary blood donation clubs according to blood types.
About 150 people have donated blood for over 30 times, some 200 for over 20 times in Khanh Hoa Province.
To acknowledge blood donors’ contribution, Khanh Hoa Red Cross has proposed Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee for some preferential policies such as hospital fee reduction and medical insurance support for those who have donated blood for over 10 times.
