Van Ninh District has actively boosted bird flu control measures. Accordingly, local authorities have implemented obligatory vaccination for the poultry stipulated by the veterinary agency in an effort to protect against the possibility that the virus will start to spread to humans.
In addition, the steering committee has also asked for bird flu propaganda via mass media to raise public awareness of environmental sanitation to protect against bird flu spread and take responsibilities to make timely reports of any suspected cases to local authorities and veterinary agencies.
Bui Thi Thanh Huong, Head of the district Veterinary Dtation says about 40,000 A/H5N1 vaccine doses have been used for the poultry in the district.
Moreover, free grazing ducks, over 100,000 raised in the district, are being kept in quarantine. Inspection and quarantine stations are set up to tackle an possible outbreak.
All ducks that have not undergone animal quarantine or from unknown origins are banned from trade and transport.
"My 4,700 ducks have been already vaccinated. Additional medicines are also used to build up their resistance to infection, ” says Pham Minh Tam, Van Binh Commune.
Many households are raising more than 500 ducks in the district. Duck-keepers become aware of epidemic control and obligatory vaccination for their poultry. "The district veterinary station has also registered for more vaccines to assure sufficient supply for local residents," says Bui Thi Thanh Huong.
