All local authorities and communities in Khanh Son District are taking many measures to prevent forest fire.

According to reports, 1,800ha of forests and nearly 300ha of mountain fields in the communes of Thanh Son, Son Binh and Son Hiep, Khanh Son District are at high risk of fire. Grass fires in dry seasons can get quickly out of control and cause the disaster.

Nguyen Quang Trung, Son Binh Commune Forest Warden says the commune Foresters’ Board in association with local authorities has launched propaganda campaigns to raise public awareness of forest protection and fire prevention.

The people’s committees of wards and the town have made schedules for burning of trees and plants in each village. Most of the high-risk forests are located in hilly areas, far from water sources, making forest fire fighting extremely challenging.

Therefore, “Prevention is better than cure” is the principle of people’s committees of communes and the town. Every effort has been made to prevent forest fires.

According to Le Van Muoi, an official of Khanh Son Protective Forest Management Division, patrols of the region, especially densely populated areas long the provincial road 9 where there is a pine forest in Son Hiep and Son Binh have been maintained.

Bui Duc Luyen, Chief of Khanh Son District Forest Management Division says, "In recent years, no big forest flame has been reported in Khanh Son. The dry season of 2014 has come earlier than previous years. The forest fire danger level is very high these days."

Therefore, since the beginning of the dry season, a close cooperation in wildfire control has been maintained among local authorities, ensuring a 24-hour standby to timely discover and prevent unattended grass burning. Firefighting equipment is available and operational to deal with any outbreak of fire.
