Charity work, medical cost reduction and exemption are among practical activities done by Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association, following Uncle Ho’s teaching words.
According to Nguyen Thuong, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association, many charity activities worth over VND 1 billion have been held such as giving free or discounted medical examination, raising funds for eye surgeries and offering wheelchairs, scholarships and gifts to the poor in Khanh Hoa Province.

Free medical check-ups and medicines were provided in May 2013 for many residents in Binh Ba, Cam Lam Commune, Cam Ranh City. 2 months later, other charity work was done in Cam Thinh Tay Commune, benefiting nearly 100 residents.
The Oriental Medicine Associations of Ninh Giang Ward and Ninh Hoa Town in cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City Sponsoring Association for the Disabled, Orphans & Poor Patients brought cataract patients from poor families to Ho Chi Minh City for medical examination in October 2013. Free operation was performed on 46 patients whose health qualifies for the surgery.
Nguyen Van Su, Head of Ninh Giang Ward Oriental Medicine Association says the association mobilized many sponsors nationwide in 2013 to provide VND1 billion support for eye surgeries for 347 poor patients. The branch is currently raising funds for 60 other poor people. In addition, over the past years, Khanh Hoa Oriental Medicine Association has provided medical examination for nearly 442,000 patients. Over 28,000 patients have benefited from hospital fee discount and exemption with a total cost of VND439 million. Besides, many activities have been held to improve public health care.
Specially, Ninh Hoa Town Oriental Medicine Association has boosted propaganda on benefits of Vietnamese traditional medicines. Nha Trang City Oriental Medicine Association has provided professional support for medical stations for their traditional medicine garden samples.
Cam Lam District Oriental Medicine Association has developed 9 medicinal herb gardens. Cam Ranh City Oriental Medicine Association has built a medicinal herb garden in Cam Phuoc Dong Commune. The Oriental Medicine Association branch of Khanh Hoa General Hospital has exchanged and used medicinal herbs, opened classes on medical treatment using Vietnamese traditional medicines, etc.
Moreover, professional training and scientific research have been focused. Nearly 200 remedies by local herbalists have been collected to protect and promote valuable experience in traditional health care in Khanh Hoa Province. Many research studies have been conducted by Khanh Hoa General Hospital, 87 Hospital, etc.
The provincial association has also drafted a project on application for official development assistance (ODA) for the medicinal herb preservation and development program in Khanh Hoa, period 2013-2015.
In 2014, the Oriental Medicine Association at all levels will continue implementing propaganda for effects of medicinal herbs as well as promoting charity work.
