For the first time, International Day of Happiness has been celebrated in Vietnam with the theme "Love and Share". Ngo Huong, Chief of the Family & Cultural Life Bureau, Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism has had a talk on the day celebration in Khanh Hoa Province.
In June 2012 the United Nations declared March 20 as the International Day of Happiness. 193 member countries, including Vietnam, pledged to support this day in an effort to improve life quality, build social justice and sustainable development to bring happiness to people around the world.

What are the meanings of the International Day of Happiness?
The idea for the International Day of Happiness came from Bhutan, a nation located deep in the continental eastern Himalayas. It is a country with high happiness index based on such factors as health, spirit, education, environment, management quality and living standard.
The country has been recognized with the supremacy of national happiness over national income since the early 1970s and famously adopted the goal of Gross National Happiness over Gross National Product.
Beside the meaning stated above, it is a special day of a year. A universal phenomenon occurs on this day every year when the sun is on the same plane as the earthʼs equator so that day and night are of equal length, creating balance in the earthʼs celestial coordinate systems. It is considered as the symbol for the balance between dark and light, dreams and reality and so on. Therefore, the day also delivers a message that balance is one of the keys to happiness.
What activities have been held in response to the special day?
Together with other communities nationwide, Khanh Hoa has organized many activities to mark the event. The activities are scheduled to take place on March 8-21, focusing on March 20. Khanh Hoa Television & Radio held a talk broadcast live on FM on March 19.
On March 4, Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee gave directions on the celebration of activities to respond to the day such as meetings, conferences, forums, contests, etc. featuring the theme of happiness.
In addition, many other activities have been held, including “Happy family” Contest in Ninh Hoa Town with the participation of 27 typical families.
