“Action to make the Earth greener” is the theme of the Earth Hour 2014 observed annually on March 29. Many activities continued to take place to mark the so-called green earth hour this year.
Many businesses in Khanh Hoa Province responded to the electricity saving campaign. Le Thi Hong Van, Director of High-quality Salanganes Nest Soft Drink Factory says, “We frequently save electricity in production and lighting. We join the annual event by switching off lights in the factory during the earth hour. The activity is meaningful in raising awareness of power saving to cut production cost.” According to Khanh Hoa Power Joint Stock Company, the one hour saved 18,000 kWh in the province in 2013.

"Khanh Hoa Power Joint Stock Company took many measures to mobilize its customers to save the energy in 2013. Nearly VND 575 million was spent on support for customers’ solar water heater installation," says Luc Xuan Thoi, Head of the Electricity Sales Supervision Office.
Khanh Hoa Department of Foreign Affairs has been recorgnized to be typical in power saving. Nha Trang Garment & Textile, Khanh Viet Corporation and some big hotels have also been known as taking the lead in energy saving.
Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet, Director of Tan Viet Joint Stock Company, Sunrise Nha Trang says “During the earth hour 2014, we switched off lights and air conditioners in public places. Posters were set up and letters were sent to all guests to recommend them to respond to the earth hour. Reportedly, solar heating systems and compact fluorescent lamps helped Sunrise Nha Trang Hotel to save 132,500kW in 2013.
Saving energy to protect environment is required joint effort of young people. Tran Thi Kim Yen, Nha Trang Teacher Training College says, “Over the past year, the Student Association has had many activities to respond to the green earth hour campaign such as bike cycling along main streets in Nha Trang City sending messages on power saving and environmental protection.”
Launched by World Wildlife Fund (WWF) in 2007, Earth Hour or Green Earth Hour is a worldwide event observed to encourage households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour to raise awareness about the need to take action on climate change.
