Khanh Hoa Province has implemented the Prime Minister’s Decision  32 on social work development, period 2010-2020, known as project 32, and gained initial satisfactory results.

The Prime Minister approved the Project 32 on March 25, 2010 to offer a comprehensive planning framework for social work development in Vietnam. Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has issued plans to implement the project promptly. The Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs has cooperated with relevant agencies to make communications plans designed to raise public awareness of social work.

Reportedly, there have been 30 articles about social work in the Khanh Hoa Newspaper together with more than 20,000 leaflets. In addition, social work counseling has been provided for students of Nha Trang Teacher Training College, vocational schools and centers in Khanh Hoa Province.

Social work promotion has been also focused in Khanh Hoa during the period 2011-2020. 7 social work training courses have been held for over 690 people. 137 social work collaborators have been employed. Besides, social service institutions have been also staffed with social workers.

Khanh Hoa Social Service Center has founded the Social Work Bureau to provide social work-related services with the hot-line 058.3540767 available to meet local residents’ demand for social work.

Up to now, the bureau has helped  2 abandoned children in need of urgent protection, provided mental and physical rehabilitation for 15 people, vocational training for 46, etc. Especially, one foreign man of Myanmar nationality has been helped to contact his family and return home safe and sound.

The Social Work Bureaus has been also founded at Khanh Hoa General Hospital to provide social support and counseling for patients.

According to Mai Xuan Tri, Deputy Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs, some major targets of the project 32 have been fulfilled compared with the plan set for the period 2011-2015. Social workers at commune-level have increased.

However, there still remain some obstacles such as lack of professional social workers, limited social service network, etc. Therefore, the local authority plans to continue boosting propaganda on social work, provide more training, expand social services, etc in the time to come.
