Street food business has contributed to job creation, however street food is perceived to be a public health risk due lack appreciation for safe food handling.
Therefore, in 2012, the Ministry of Health issued Circular 30 defining food safety conditions, including those for food street businesses in order to decrease food poisoning cases and diseases transmitted through street food. The Action Month for Food Quality, Safety and Hygiene 2014 focuses on food street quality and safety.
What are main activities held in Khanh Hoa in the action month?
Many activities are held in the month such as a launching ceremony in Nha Trang City, food safety propaganda and inspection. Accordingly, a provincial inspection mission will be founded in early May to ensure food safety, protect the public health from food borne illness, give direct inspection on some food street businesses and collective kitchens which did not fully meet food safety standards in 2013, etc.
What is the aim of this year’s action month?
This year’s action month is to raise the roles and responsibilities of local People’s Committees at all levels, management boards of festivals, industrial parks, producers, businesses and consumers in street food safety and hygiene assurance.
Besides, 100% of street food businesses will sign agreements in compliance with regulations on food quality, safety and hygiene with a 10% year-on-year decrease in food poisoning cases.
