Within the framework of the 5th International Spine Meeting at Khanh Hoa General Hospital, many advanced surgical technologies were implemented.
Japanese spinal specialists named Kazuya Kitamvra and Juinichi Yamane were engaged in endoscopic surgery, the advantage of which was reduced body cavity invasion and spine curvature prevention.

36-year-old Phan Tan N., Vinh Phuoc Ward, Nha Trang City, was among 20 patients chosen for spine surgery at the 5th International Spine Meeting. She says, “I suffered from a neck pain for 3 years. After operation, I can move my hands now. My neck and shoulders are less painful.”
Laminoplasty, an orthopaedic surgical procedure for treating spinal stenosis by relieving pressure on the spinal cord, was applied by physicians from Khanh Hoa, Ho Chi Minh City and Japan.
During the 4-day event, domestic and foreign surgeons conducted operation with the application of advanced technologies on 20 severely spinal patients.
Most of the patients recovered well from their operation and experienced less pain. Many could have better control of their hands.
After Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Khanh Hoa General Hospital is the national’s fourth location to have the Spinal Surgery Department, the first provincial level hospital to have such department. Many advanced intensive technologies have been applied in spine treatment.
Besides, the successful hosting of 5 international spine meetings has proved its great achievements, confirms PhD-Associate Professor Vo Van Thanh, Chairman of Trauma-Orthopedics Association, Spine Society of Ho Chi Minh City, Chairman of the Cervical Spine Research Society - Asia Pacific Section.
Nguyen Van Xang, Vice Director of Khanh Hoa General Hospital says Khanh Hoa General Hospital will become a hospital of the Southern Central Region. Therefore, the management board has focused on development of intensive technologies.
The hosting of international spine meetings is considered as an approach to innovative technologies in spine surgery, helping to raise the reputation of the hospital and provide favorable conditions for patients to have treatment at home instead of traveling far to Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi, he adds.
