The 9th International Scientific Symposium IOC-WESTPAC themed “A healthy ocean for prosperity in the Western Pacific: Scientific challenges and possible solutions” opened in Nha Trang City on April 22.
Present at the event were Chau Van Minh, President of Vietnam Academy of Science & Technology; PhD Wendy Wason-Wright, Executive Secretary of IOC and Assistant Director General of UNESCO; Tran Son Hai, Member of Khanh Hoa Provincial Standing Committee, Permanent Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa People’s Committee; and nearly 600 representatives, including 520 international ones coming from over 20 countries and territories.

The objectives of the symposium are to bring together regional and international marine scientists, particularly young scientists, to examine achievements in marine science and promote comprehensive collaboration in an effort to improve management and decision-making processes for sustainable marine development and tackle challenges caused by climate change.
