This year’s National Sea and Island Week themed “Joining hands to protect blue oceans” is scheduled to take place on June 1-8 in response to the World Environment Day (June 5) and the World Oceans Day (June 8). The theme of the World Oceans Day 2014 coordinated internationally by the Ocean Project and the World Ocean Network is “Together we have the power to protect the ocean".

The annual event is a chance for Vietnam to confirm its marine economic potentials as well as its determination to boost the local marine industry and protect marine resources for sustainable development. This is also an opportunity to raise public awareness of defending the nation's sea and island sovereignty contributing to maintain national security and development.
What activities are taking place in Khanh Hoa to mark the Vietnam Sea and Island Week?
Khanh Hoa Department of Natural Resources & Environment has suggested local departments, social and political organizations, people’s committees hold such related activities as community-based propaganda aimed at the Vietnam Sea and Island Week, the World Environment Day and the World Oceans Day.
There will be workshops, conferences, etc. on sustainable use, management and protection of marine resources and environment, assuring national security and defense.
In addition, on this occasion, the Department of Natural Resources & Environment will organize a workshop to contribute initiatives to the action program of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee on strategies on sustainable use of marine resources till 2020, vision till 2030; workshops on a basic legal system on sustainable development, management and protection of marine resources and environment.
Moreover, posters and banners have been hung in densely-populated areas near Cau Da Port, Vinh Nguyen Ward, Nha Trang City to draw public attention to environmental issues.
