The project on medical support in southern central region has contributed to healthcare network expansion in Khanh Hoa Province with many activities such as upgrading medical infrastructures and improving access to medical services.
Van Ninh District Healthcare Center was reconstructed and put into operation in February 2014. The new well-equipped 20,354m2 building has a floor area of 13,488 m2 with 120 beds.

Constructed in 2009, Van Ninh District Healthcare Center was partly funded by the medical support project.
Similarly, the newly-built Cam Ranh General Hospital was put into use in March 2014. It has 8 storeys with 200 beds.
The construction of its inpatient treatment zone which began in November 2011 with an area of 8,500 m2 was funded by Asian Development Bank (ADB) (80%) and the provincial reciprocal capital.
Nguyen Hong Quang, Director of Cam Ranh General Hospital, says “The infrastructure investment has helped to improve healthcare quality.”
The project on medical support in southern central region has been implemented in Khanh Hoa since 2009 with the total capital of over USD7.4 million, including USD 6.7 million from Official Development Assistant (ODA) and the rest from the provincial reciprocal capital.
The project has included the construction and upgrading of infrastructures, medical waste management, labor force training and research support for thousands of medical staff, promotion of healthcare for those in disadvantaged areas, etc.
In 2013 alone, the total funding from ADB was over VND28.6 billion for medical facilities, over VND1 billion for medical workforce and VND1.6 billion for management capacity increase. In 2014, the total expenditure from the project is VND18.9 billion, including VND3.9 billion from ADB and the rest from the provincial reciprocal capital.
Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health says, “Over the past 5 years, the project has funded many practical activities, contributing to medical network expansion and healthcare quality increase, especially in remote areas.
