Thanks to the National Red Cross’s support, Khanh Hoa Red Cross has received the project on healthcare 2014, which seeks to change behavior in dengue and malaria control and prevention in Khanh Hoa Province, according to Tran Nguyen Luong, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Red Cross.

The project is designed to strengthen local residents and high school students’ dengue and malaria control and prevention; and Red Cross staff and volunteers’ adaptation to epidemic.

The project funded with VND1.65 billion by the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies is scheduled to run till the end of 2014.

8 wards in Nha Trang City will be chosen to participate in the project with 3 communes in Khanh Son District involved in malaria control and prevention.

Activities will include 5,300 handouts, leaflets and posters; 1,500 mosquito nets for local residents; volunteer and teacher recruitment for the program; training on planning, supervision and propaganda on behavior change.

In addition, direct education will be given at over 3,200 families’ houses and at junior high schools. Besides, clean-up campaigns will be held to kill mosquito larvae.

Each volunteer will be in charge of 20 families. His responsibilities will include guidance on sanitation; dengue and malaria control and prevention, supervision on behavior change at home, etc. Every month, Red Cross staff and volunteers will hold mosquito larval control program in communities with the participation of local authorities and residents.

Education on behavior change will be given at schools via extracurricular activities such as seminars, acting and painting themed dengue and malaria control and prevention.
