Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just issued a document to approve the Dien Khanh urban planning till 2030. This is a base for Dien Khanh District to develop into a town.

Accordingly, the urban area includes Dien Khanh Town and 7 neighboring communes namely Dien Phu, Dien Lac, Dien Phuoc, Dien Thanh, Dien Toan, Dien An and Suoi Hiep. The population in Dien Khanh Town is expected to reach 200,000, including 110,000 in the urban area by 2030. The urban area is estimated to be 1,863.8ha by that time.

The initiative aims to effectively manage the existing construction space, protect biological values as well as production practice in the suburbs.

The district will develop the existing residential area, especially the zone connecting the provincial route 2 and Nha Trang-Dien Khanh route; control the tourism space Nha Trang – Da Lat in order to take advantage of interregional connection while maintaining rich agricultural and ecological characteristics and assuring traffic safety.

According to Le Xuan Nhan, Chairman of Dien Khanh District People’s Committee, in the general urban planning by 2030, Dien Khanh District will develop eco-tourism and other local travel potentials to be connected with sea and island tourism in Nha Trang City. The mentioned potentials include cultural and historical tourism (Dien Khanh Citadel, Dien Khanh Temple of Literature, Am Chua, etc), sight-seeing along Cai River, hill and countryside landscape and so on. After 2020 till 2030, Dien Khanh will become a satellite urban area of Nha Trang City.

Dien Khanh Citadel will develop some rest stops for sightseeing; change its land resource function from public use to urban service and tourism.  Dien Khanh Citadel will become a pedestrian area to promote its tourism potentials. The new 100ha administrative area will be located to the north of Cau Lung – Khanh Le route, adjacent to Dien Lac Commune.

Other zones located to the east and south of the citadel; in the Southern Cai River – Northern Citadel urban centre and on the banks of Cai River will be developed for sustainable tourism and service. Some constructions in the planning under implementation include Dien Khanh Citadel restoration (invested by the Department of Culture, Sport & Tourism); Dien Phuoc Vocational High School (by the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs); 2ha newly-opened Dien Khanh General Hospital, etc.

The approved Dien Khanh urban planning till 2030 is expected to facilitate the implementation of socio-economic development projects in the district.
