Many activities were held in Khanh Hoa Province from September 22 to October 5 to mark the 2014 week responding to lifelong learning with the theme “Learning brings happiness to you and those around you”.
The movement was designed to raise awareness of lifelong learning and create a learning society, says Phan Van Dung, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.
Main activities in Khanh Hoa included book exhibition, technical transfer, vocational counseling, professional training courses, implementation of lifelong learning models, etc.
Especially, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training cooperated with study promotion associations at all levels and news agencies to raise public awareness of policies on study encourage, create a learning society, launch a lifelong learning movement, boost regular learning activities in families and communities through such models as “Studious family” and “Studious community”, strengthen community education centers, etc. Besides, rewards were given to those with great achievements in study, educational internalization tasks and so on.
In addition, the educational network was enhanced with various training forms. In the school year 2013-2014, there were 182 nursery schools, 185 primary schools, 114 junior high schools, 31 senior high schools; 9 regular education centers and 5 centers for general techniques and career orientation; 137 community education centers, 2 vocational high schools, 5 foreign language and informatics centers; and more than 70 foreign language and informatics institutions.
Much effort has been put on developing a learning society over the past years, raising literates, primary and secondary education universalization rate to 100% .
Laborers’ qualifications have much improved with nearly 66% provided leadership and management skill training. Over 83% of civil servants have had access to advanced information technology and nearly 46% have obtained foreign language certificates at A, B, C levels or bachelors’ diplomas. 67% of laborers in industrial zones are presently high school graduates, 81% skilled workers and 42% trained ones.
In 2013, nearly 90,000 rural laborers had access to scientific and technological transfer in production at community education centers. Over 100 classes on rural careers were held with the participation of over 3,000 people and 15 courses on science and technology for 800 people. About 15,000 staff attended courses on informatics and foreign language.
In the time to come, the lifelong learning movement will be promoted via study encouragement, learning society development and implementation of the project on building a learning society till 2020 in Khanh Hoa Province. Much effort will be made to raise effectiveness of community education centers to meet the lifelong learning demand; expand integration of academic and vocational education at regular education centers, etc.
