On September 18, the Prime Minister approved the establishment of Khanh Hoa University which is expected to facilitate higher education in Khanh Hoa Province as well as provide high quality human resources.

Khanh Hoa has been defined to become a center of economics, culture, tourism, science, technology and human resource training for the South Central Coastal region and the highlands. Therefore, to reach the strategic targets, the local human resource must be improved, especially in culture, art and tourism industries, according to Le Tuan Tu, Director  of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.

 

Khanh Hoa University is a public school based on Nha Trang Teacher Training College and Nha Trang Culture, Art & Tourism College under Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee. Its new location will be in Van Dang Village, Vinh Luong Commune, Nha Trang City on an area of 31ha. Initially, the university will be based at Nha Trang Teacher Training College and then be moved to its new location in Van Dang Village. Its second location will be at Nha Trang Culture, Art & Tourism College and Hon Nghe Village, Vinh Ngoc Commune, Nha Trang City. Besides, the university will have a center for research and scientific experiment in Suoi Cat Commune, Cam Lam District.

 

From now to 2020, Khanh Hoa University will provide 4-year undergraduate programs in cultural management; traditional musical instrument performance; tourism and travel management; English language and Russian language. 3-year courses will be in existing training fields, including pedagogy, culture, tourism, art and foreign language at Nha Trang Teacher Training College and Nha Trang Culture, Art & Tourism College.

 

Khanh Hoa University is expected to begin its first enrollment of about 7,000, including 300 in a 4-year course in the 2015-2016 school year and up to 8,500, including 900  in a 4-year program by the end of 2020. From the 2020 – 2025, the university plans to expand its training fields and increase its enrollment to 9,000/ year, including 1,200 in 4-year undergraduate programs.

 

The project on a dormitory in Vinh Hai Ward, Nha Trang City for undergraduate students has been completed and the construction on the new location in Van Dang Village is scheduled to begin in early 2015 with a total cost of over VND 851 billion.

 

In the period 2017 – 2020, there will be investment in infrastructures for practice at  Nha Trang Culture, Art & Tourism College and the location in Hon Nghe Village, Vinh Ngoc Commune. The funding is expected to come from the local development investment budget (60%); socio-economic organizations and legal sources (30%); and the rest from tuition and others.
