The total value of charity work done by Khanh Hoa Red Cross has reached over VND36 billion in 2014. Many practical activities have been held to help vulnerable people, including the poor, Agent Orange victims, etc.

Tran Nguyen Luong, Chairman of Khanh Hoa Red Cross says the main functions of Red Cross include emergency assistance, health care, first aid, blood donation and natural disaster relief.

 

Over the past years, thanks to the local authorities and Red Cross staff, the effectiveness of the Red Cross operation in 2014 has been 11 times as much as the funding from the State budget.

 

Many movements have been launched to help the poor, Agent Orange victims and flood victims in the central region. Over 21,000 gifts, 2,400 emergency relief grants, 300 wheelchairs, 2,750 scholarships, 145 bicycles, etc have been offered to the disadvantaged, the disabled, etc.

 

Besides, the Red Cross has funded the repair of 74 houses and the construction of wells in 2 mountainous districts. “Thanks to the Red Cross, my family has a new house to live in. We used to live in a dilapidated house with the obsession that it might collapse at any time,” says a resident named Nguyen Thi Quyen, Vinh Trung Commune, Nha Trang City.

 

In addition, Khanh Hoa Red Cross has mobilized a Norwegian organization to finance the 500m2 construction with 10 rooms and 1 kitchen for teachers and pupils of Khanh Thuong Primary School, Khanh Vinh District.

 

Teacher Nong Thi Yen says, “The building is very helpful, especially for teachers and pupils far away from schools. Internet-connected computers are also available for use, helping us to update information as well as improve our knowledge and skills.”

 

Khanh Hoa Red Cross has also been known for its disaster relief and emergency management efforts, providing support worth over VND1.1 billion to over 6,000 local residents and Typhoon Haiyan victims in the Philippines.

 

Besides, community-based healthcare has been also promoted with free training courses and medical check-ups for over 2,400 people. 28,000 portions have been offered to poor patients at 11 charity kitchens. Khanh Hoa Red Cross has provided first aid training and donated first-aid kit boxes to 14 off-shore ships.

 

Moreover, the local Mobilization Board for Voluntary Blood Donation has effectively developed the blood donation movement. 129 blood type clubs have been founded.  In 2014, 85 blood donation drives have been held with the participation of over 16,000 people, donating 12,680 units of blood.

 

Khanh Hoa Red Cross at all levels plan to build a voluntary blood donation management software at district level, establish mobilization boards for voluntary blood donation at universities, vocational colleges and agencies in Khanh Hoa, get involved in new rural construction, etc in 2015, according to Tran Nguyen Luong.
