It is necessary to establish a social work center in Khanh Hoa Province to meet the local social service demand and security commitments, according to Le Huu Tho, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Health.

In recent years, Khanh Hoa has issued many social support policies, invested in infrastructures and facilities for social services; and raised fund from many local and foreign individuals and organizations for social support projects.

 

According to the survey by the sector of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs, more than 220,400 in Khanh Hoa Province are in need of social work services. They include 119,200 senior citizens, 35,700 disabled people, 33,300 social support beneficiaries; 19,300 vulnerable and 7,800 severely disadvantaged children, etc.

 

Under the policy on social work promotion, 2 social service divisions have been established in Khanh Hoa, one at Khanh Hoa Social Service Center and the other at Khanh Hoa General Hospital.

 

The scheme 32 on social work development, period 2010-2020, approved by the Prime Minister in 2010 has opened chances for sustainable development of social work in Vietnam. Accordingly, social work centers have been founded in 32 provinces and cities nationwide. “A social work center is also essential in Khanh Hoa Province to further meet the target of the scheme 32 for the development of the social work network,” says Le Huu Tho.

 

Khanh Hoa Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs has already made a plan on the establishment of a social work center to be submitted to Khanh Hoa Provincial people’s Committee for approval. Accordingly, the center will have 5 offices for administration; counseling & support; training & propaganda; community development; and case management. The center is designed to settle difficult personal, family issues; provide social work for individuals, families and groups in Khanh Hoa with 4 functions: prevention, support intervention, rehabilitation and development.

 

In addition, the center will promote the social work network in the province, get involved in the treatment of mental disorder, rehabilitation; give support for community integration, provide social education services and so on.
