The province-level Excellent Nursery Teachers Contest 2014 – 2015 of Khanh Hoa Province was highly evaluated for its positive changes which helped to reflect exactly the teachers’ ability.

This year’s contest was the first competition which applied the provisions of the Circular 49/2011 issued by the Ministry of Education and Training. Accordingly, 45 teachers from eight districts, towns and cities in the province taking part in the contest had to compete in two rounds on checking ability in the form of self-expression and test and practicing through organizing two educational activities (one optional and one compulsory given by the organization board through the form of draw).

During the contest, both organization board and contestants commented that the provisions of Circular 49 made this year’s contest tighter and more objective, which substantively reflected the expertise and professional competence of the teachers.

Each contestant had to compete in theory and practice. In the practical examination, the teachers did not have much time to prepare for the compulsory teaching period. Therefore, only the truly qualified teachers could meet all the test requirements.

“Although I has had experience in teaching, I had to made more efforts than I did in the previous contests. Because of having to perform the compulsory teaching period at a new nursery school, I had to get acquainted with new pupils and had a solid expertise in order to meet the requirements,” said Nguyen Thi Thu, teacher at Ly Tu Trong Nursery School, Nha Trang.

According to Hoang Thi Ly, Deputy Director of the provincial Department of Education and Training, most of the teachers joining the excellent teachers contests have made progress in the acquisition of teaching skills thanks to the learning and exchanging the experience. Although it was the first time the contest was organized under new regulations, the teachers still showed their solid specialist knowledge, professional competence and dedication to the career.

The province-level excellent nursery teacher contest has significantly contributed to change the teaching method which puts pupils at the center of the learning process. The results of the contest are one of the bases to assess the practical teaching quality of the nursery teachers, helping to build a plan to train and improve the professional skills and competence of the teachers. Besides, the contest is also an opportunity for the teachers to exchange and learn from each others’ experience.

“When teaching at school, I do not have many opportunities to evaluate my teaching competence. Through the contest, I could exchange and learn more about the experience and teaching methods from the other teachers,” said Tran Le Ngoc Quynh, teacher at Dien Son Nursery School, Dien Khanh District.
