The 2015 Provincial Scientific & Technical Contest for high school students has inspired learners’ initiatives, creating practical products for the community.

The contest drew 91 contestants with 62 projects in 7 sectors, including electricity, mechanics, physics, astronomy, environmental management, computer science, mathematics, social science and behavior, etc. 5 first, 9 second, 10 third and 12 consolation prizes were awarded to individuals and groups. 6 outstanding projects were chosen for the national contest in Dong Thap Province this March.
Phan Thi Thuy Trang and Ngo Cap Bao, 2 students from Tran Binh Trong High School created a machine to make mango sheets, a specialty in Cam Lam District.
Ngo Cao Bao said “Making mango sheets by hand takes a lot of time. We have done a research on a machine that can separate the seed from the flesh and then grind the squash well. I plan to build a machine with a closed process from peeling, grinding, cooking, and drying and to packaging.” The project was among 5 projects awarded the first prize.
Other practical projects included “Smart lab kits for high school students”, by innovators from Le Quy Don Gifted School, “Aerator improvement” by Phan Boi Chau High School, Cam Ranh City; “Traffic light system for pedestrians” by Ly Tu Trong High School, Nha Trang City; “Laser system - anti-theft alarm system” by Ngo Gia Tu High School, etc.
According to Tran Van Long, Head of the Scientific Management & Student Affairs Office, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, students’ products showed their creativeness, great labor and time. They also confidently presented their projects in front of the jury. Impressive product display was made by Ngo Gia Tu High School, Le Quy Son Gifted School, Ly Tu Trong, Phan Boi Chau, Hoang Hoa Tham, Nha Trang City Division of Education & Training, etc.
The contest has provided opportunities for students to do research and apply what they have learnt at school into reality.
The event has promoted teaching and assessment method innovation; as well as improved teaching quality, inspiring students to reach their full potential, according to Tran Quang Man, Deputy Director of Department of Education & Training.
