2015 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship expands eligibility

The 2015 Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) has just been launched at Nha Trang University. MOSWC held annually by Certiport (USA) is a global competition that tests students' skills on Microsoft Office applications. The competition has become the biggest computer science competition in Vietnam. It has taken place in 63 cities and provinces nationwide with increasing participants.

Different from computing contests for high school students, the event provides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their Microsoft Office skills, have some fun, gain recognition, increase their study results and work efficiency in the future, according to Ton That Duy, Director of IIG Vietnam Da Nang Branch. IIG is an organization in testing and educational quality accreditation in Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar.

This year’s competition is open to students aged between 13 and 22 from high schools, vocational schools, colleges and universities. Besides, achievers of 700/1,000 scores at Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) test are qualified for the competition.

The rounds at school level and provincial level are decided by Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training. At the national level, participants take an online test under the supervision according to international standard.

Registration for the contest must be made before March 28. The national qualification contest is scheduled to take place on April 19 in Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Hue, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City and An Giang.

50 excellent contestants will advance to the national final in Hanoi, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City on May 24. 3 first-prize winners will become MOS 2015 Ambassadors to represent Vietnam at the World Championship finals in Texas, the USA on August 9-12, 2015. Besides, the ambassadors are responsible for promoting the community of Microsoft Office enthusiasts.

3 first prizes worth VND100 million each, including a trip to the USA to participate in the world final and gifts; 3 second prizes worth VND20 million each; 3 third prizes worth VND10 million each and consolidation prizes will be awarded. In addition, certificates of merit will be given to prize-winners by the Ministry of Education & Training.

First-place champions will receive USD 5,000 each, 3 second-place winners USD 2,500 each and 3 third-place winners USD 1,000 each. Besides, there will be awards for schools of which students win national prizes.

Reportedly, Vietnam won 1 gold medal in 2012, 1 bronze medal in 2013 and 2 bronze medals in 2014.
