Much improvement has been made in patient care and the health of the public in Khanh Hoa Province. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of Khanh Hoa Provincial Department of Heath has provided some information about Khanh Hoa medical industry on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Vietnamese Doctors’ Day.

Over the past years, health care has much improved with the application of many advanced technologies in diagnosis and treatment. The satellite hospital project has been successfully implemented. Many new hospitals have been put into operation. The sex ratio at birth has remained at 109,4 boys/ 100 girls, etc.
In addition, Khanh Hoa has successfully promoted the international cooperation. USD 244,000 has been raised from non-governmental organizations to improve medical infrastructures.

The achievements have been gained thanks to the direction and support from the Ministry of Health, Provincial Party Committee, People’s Council, Provincial People’s Committee and cooperation of local agencies, departments and people.

At present, Khanh Hoa has 5,000 medical staff, including 800 physicians and pharmacists. Basically, the staff has met the requirement in medical care. Many have proved to be competent in work as well as in application of advanced techniques in medical treatment.

However, like other communities, Khanh Hoa is still lacking physicians, mostly in specialized hospitals of tuberculosis, psychiatrics and general hospitals at province and district levels. Khanh Hoa General Hospital has had sufficient staff, but more is still needed for the newly-opened faculties.

Khanh Hoa Department of Health has issued preferential policies to attract physicians to work in Khanh Hoa. Besides, on-site training jointly provided by medical institutions has been enhanced.

In 2014, 25 physicians were employed. The implementation of the above policies is expected to meet the human resource demand at provincial, district-level and specialized hospitals by 2020. The human recourse is expected to basically meet medical care demand at commune-level hospitals by 2025.

Moreover, to improve medical care, Khanh Hoa Department of Health has also focused post-graduate education for its staff. 20-25 people are sent to attend Master and specialist courses every year.

Furthermore, the department has focused on medical ethics and quality improvement. Most of medical staff has abided by medical ethics, dedicated to providing competent health care.
