Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just issued a decision to found a social work center under the management of the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs.
The establishment of the social work center in Khanh Hoa Province is essential to meet the local social service demand and security commitments, especially in a context of a social work center network being set up nationwide under the approved scheme on social work development, period 2010-2020. Reportedly, there have been 32 social work centers so far throughout the country.
Over the past years, Khanh Hoa has issued many social support policies, improved infrastructures and facilities for social services; and raised funds from many local and foreign individuals and organizations for social assistance projects. However, more effective work needs to be done to further provide social aid and services for those in need, according to Le Huu Tho, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids & Social Affairs.
The center is designed to settle difficult personal, family issues; provide social work for individuals, families and groups in Khanh Hoa. The center is to further meet the increasing demand for social service and promote the social work profession, targeted at advanced social security suitable for the local economic development conditions and potentials, contributing to building a sound social and cultural environment.
The center plans to facilitate vulnerable people’s access to social services in the community, helping them to gain and maintain stabilization through crisis intervention, case management and so on to improve local social security.
The center will provide professional social services in the community for vulnerable individuals, families and groups; reduce overload at existing social service establishments and broaden opportunities for benefiting from social services. Besides, much effort will be made to sharpen social workers’ skills, raise social work awareness, seek donations to the vulnerable and promote the professional social profession in Khanh Hoa.
