According to Nguyen Van Hung, in charge of the rescue patrol team, Nha Trang Bay Management Board, his team has 38 members, maintaining patrols along the coast for up to 10km stretching from Bach Dang Park to Hon Chong Beach.

“The need for additional members and volunteers has grown over the years. Our suggestion of the volunteer rescue team has been approved by Nha Trang Bay Management Board. The volunteers are required to be healthy and good at swimming to be able respond to requests and calls for water-related rescues," Hung says

Nguyen Van Hiep, Phuoc Tien Ward, Head of the Volunteer team says swimming is an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. He usually goes swimming every morning and it has been his habit for over 30 years. He has witnessed many drowning and thus he is willing to join the rescue team to join effort to assure the safety of swimmers.

“Before becoming the rescue team member, whenever on the beach, I also warned tourists of drowning risks and tell them safety tips when swimming here. When joining the team, I myself feel more responsible to assure safety for local residents and tourists. We have been provided more basic first aid skills. Since the beginning of the 2014, we have saved 2 cases of drowning,” Hiep says.

A volunteer named Tran Ngoc Thach, Van Thang Ward confirms, "We dedicate our efforts to saving lives, delivering emergency medical services and providing community education and safety.”

Reportedly, since its foundation, the beach rescue volunteers in association with Nha Trang rescue team have fulfilled their responsibilities in drowning prevention, saving nearly 20 lives, says Huynh Binh Thai, Deputy Chief of Nha Trang Bay Management Board.
