Over the past years, Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly at all levels has held many activities to promote learning by setting good examples for younger generations to follow, contributing greatly to building a learning society.

Every year, the Do family holds a ceremony to award descendants who have gained achievements in study.

In spite of old age, 80-year-old Do Dinh Hau, Van Thang Ward, Nha Trang City is still enthusiastic in study encouragement movements. Since 2008, he has mobilized more than 1,500 to join effort in developing and seeking donations to study promotion fund; encouraging descendants to study hard and do good things for society.

His family’s study fund which has reached hundreds of million dongs so far is used as grants and scholarships for good students. Those passing university entrance exams are offered no-interest loans worth VND5-7 million.

83-year-old Le Van Lam, Group 7, Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Hoa Town, is also a good example for lifelong learning. Every day, he still  keeps a habit of reading books and newspapers to widen his knowledge to set a good example for his children and grandchildren to follow and raise awareness of importance of lifelong learning among young people. He always teaches his children and grandchildren to lead an active, healthy and helpful lifestyles.

“Whenever alive, I try my best to educate my descendants to be aware of the importance of learning and hard work to be good citizens. Wide knowledge will surely help them know how to build a comfortable and happy family life,” Le Van Lam says.

Senior citizens have actively participated in the campaign “Old age, good example” and contributed to study encouragement and cultural life development. Old age cannot prevent them from donating their wisdom and experience to family and social work. They have joined effort to promote education, build cultural families, and keep social order and security.

According to Le Xuan Hanh, Chief of Khanh Hoa Provincial Representative Board of the Association for the Elderly, the contribution of the elderly to building a learning society has shown their responsibilities and roles. In the time to come, study promotion continues to be expanded through activities held by the Association for the Elderly.
