Over 20 years of contribution and development, Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly has gained much achievements in the promotion of elder care.
Thanks to the concern and support from the local authorities, the Provincial Association for the Elderly at all levels has made great progress. There have been 137 associations at commune level, 992 branches, 1,890 groups and 1,086 clubs for elderly, attracting 91,134 members.
According to Le Xuan Hanh, Chief of the Representative Board of Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly, much concern has been given from the community to help the seniors to lead a healthy life. Over 27,800 people aged above 70 receive longevity gifts worth VND6.5 billion every year.
35,200 old people are granted free medical insurance cards and over 29,400 are given check-ups and medicines free of charge. Besides, monthly allowances of VND270,000 are granted to those above 80 years old without retirement pensions.
Especially, thanks to a free ocular examination program held by Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly in association with Khanh Hoa General Hospital and Saigon-Nha Trang Eye Hospital, over the past 5 years, over 16,100 old people have been given eye test and disease-related information and more than 1,129 have been provided vision screening and cataract surgery free of charge. Over VND5.5 billion worth of the surgery has been raised by the Representative Board of Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly.
The association has held many activities with over VND16 billion raised so far. Much effort has been made to create a joyful environment for its members to lead an active lifestyle.
In addition, the campaign “Old age, good example” has proved to be successful, helping to promote the elderly to continue making valuable contributions to their communities in order to join effort in fighting against social evils and build civilized communities.
Furthermore, they have also actively responded to the new rural construction program. They have donated 260,777m2 of land and 45,447 workdays to the new rural construction. Nguyen Dinh Hung (Dien Lac Commune, Dien Khanh District) has donated 250m2 of land to public constructions and offered VND2 million to the needy. Chau Van Bich (Dien Tan Commune, Dien Khanh District) has donated 300m2 to the road widening project, etc.
Moreover, senior citizens have taken the lead in abiding by and encouraging younger generations to follow the law and policies. Therefore, every year, over 90% of families with old people are recognized “Cultural families”.
In the time to come, Khanh Hoa Association for the Elderly will focus on the implementation of policies for the elderly to take good care of old people. Physical, sporting and musical activities continue to be enhanced to help the elderly to remain active, stay healthy, energetic and maintain their independence, contributing to the local security, traffic safety, socio-economic growth, etc.
