The 2015 Day for Biological Diversity (May 22) has the theme “Biodiversity for Sustainable Development”. Various activities have been celebrated in Khanh Hoa in response to the event.

United Nations (UN) has chosen the theme to focus on the important role of contribution of the community at all levels to the success of sustainable development targets.

Through the theme, the UN has called the international community to raise awareness of the close relationship between biodiversity and sustainable development achievements of human beings.

Biodiversity is believed to be an important property in global and local economy, directly supporting key economic practice in various sectors, including agriculture, fishery, pharmacy, construction, biological technology, etc. Safe water supply and sources depend considerably on biodiversity.

In addition, biodiversity is also a base for sustainable livelihood, contributing greatly to climate change adaptation.

Besides, biodiversity is considered to be a base for eco-system recovery and thus it plays an important role in minimizing natural disaster risks and building the strategy of peace.

The Ministry of Natural Resources & Environment has directed the celebration of the 2015 Day for Biological Diversity with such activities as meetings, competitions, exhibitions, screening, posters, banners and other means of communications.
