Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has just issued a decision giving approval for a legal support scheme for the disabled in Khanh Hoa Province in 2015.
According to the recent disability survey conducted in Khanh Hoa Province, there are 36,000 reported with impairment, including 4,003 with especially severe disability and 14,814 with severe disability.
Khanh Hoa People’s Committee has proved the 2015 scheme on legal support for the disabled in order to raise public awareness of their rights, promote legal support, facilitate their access to legal support, especially in civil procedures, says Tran Quang Binh, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Justice.
Accordingly, local authorities plan to focus on surveying social needs of the disabled, based on their disabilities such as visual impairments, hearing impairments, physical impairment, etc.
Khanh Hoa Legal Support Center and its branches will provide legal support for the disabled through many activities to ensure effective access to justice for persons with disabilities, including through procedural provision when required; promote propaganda on legal support for the disabled; building professional training programs and materials; completing installing billboards and making leaflets about legal support for the disabled; giving guidance, supervising and examining the preferential policy implementation.
To reach practical results and attract a large participation of persons with disabilities, the activities should be feasible and suitable for specific capacities of the disabled and local socioeconomic conditions.
Besides, joint effort and close cooperation among relevant local agencies and organizations are required during the implementation of the preferential polices for the disabled in order to make the scheme more effective and streamlined.
