Khanh Hoa education and training has made great progress and gained much achievements over the past 40 years.

In 1975 after the Southern Liberation and National Reunification Day, Phu Khanh Province began the Socialist education. At that time, nearly 80,000 school and working-age populations, including 12,000 ethnic minority ones, were illiterate. Therefore, volunteers were sent to teach in mountainous and remote areas. Hundreds joined the so-called “Culture light” groups to take summer trips to ethnic minority communities.

On June 30, 1977, Phu Khanh was recognized to have alleviated illiteracy and awarded the third Labor Medal. Besides the illiteracy alleviation program, mass education classes were opened and pedagogy schools were founded. From the 1975-1976 academic year, nursery classes were available at all localities to assure child care and education for 3- to 6-year-olds. There were two technical education centers, 11 lab centers and school workshops for vocational guidance and manufacturing. 4 education levels, including high schools, nursery and pedagogy schools were built and developed. Moreover, there were gifted schools for young talents in literature, math and physics.

Khanh Hoa Province was re-established in July 1989. Accordingly, its education and training system has been re-arranged. Important changes were made and much progress was achieved. Le Qui Don Gifted School was changed into a senior high school with specialized classes in math, physics, chemistry, biology, literature and English.

Since 2001, many high schools, regular education centers, vocational centers, colleges and universities have been founded and developed. According to Le Tuan Tu, Director  of Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training, infrastructures and quality of the local education and training have much improved. The school drop-out has decreased. Many schools are in the list of high quality schools such as Le Quy Don, Ly Tu Trong, Nguyen Trai, etc.

Under the education and training development planning 2012-202020 and the vision by 2025, Khanh Hoa Province has focused on improving gifted schools, major schools and education for ethnic minority communities, striving to become a center of education and training in the South Central Coastal region and the highlands by 2020. Khanh Hoa Education and Training has moved forward to integrate into the international education, contributing to the national modernization and industrialization.

At present, there are 183 nursery schools, 333 primary and high schools, 137 community education centers, 8 regular education centers at district-level, 1 regular education center at province-level and 10 education institutions involved in regular education.

100% of wards, communes and towns have achieved the primary and junior high school primary education universalization standard. 100% of districts, towns and cities have met illiteracy alleviation requirement. 172 schools, including 44 nursery schools, 63 primary schools, 57 junior high schools and 8 senior high schools have satisfied the national standard.
