After 5 years of implementation, the urban system development program, period 2011 – 2015 has gained satisfactory achievements, considered as a foundation for Khanh Hoa to become a centrally-governed city by 2020.

The development of Nha Trang City provides a considerable stimulus to Khanh Hoa's effort to become a centrally-governed city by 2020.

Up till now, nearly 12,000 billion disbursement has been made for construction projects in Khanh Hoa. According to Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, besides the local budget on making the planning, the mobilization of the resource from enterprises have also proved effective. Good examples include the international design competition for the planning of Nha Trang urban center of trade, financial service and tourism (former Nha Trang Airport); urban area and provincial administrative center; urban areas along the route Nha Trang – Dien Khanh, Cam Ranh Bay Coastal Urban Area, etc.

The most recent contest is held by FLC in association with the Department of Construction for the planning of the provincial Administrative Center.

According to Le Van De, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Construction, strategic projects completed and underway include Cao Ba Quat, Lung Bridge, Phong Chau Street, flood control channels from Phu Vinh Bridge to Tac River; the runway No.2 of Cam Ranh International Airport, infrastructures in resettlement area in Ninh Hoa and so on.

At present, many constructions are underway, expected to bring a new image to the coastal urban area. Specially, the newly-built Vinh Diem Trung Urban Zone with a total area of 36.85ha has met the housing needs of many local residents. Others are Phuoc Long Urban Zone with an area of 48ha, luxury Bai Duong Apartment, My Gia Urban Zone, etc. In addition, social housing projects namely An Thinh, An Binh, etc have been put into use.

"After 4 years of operation, in spite of difficulties and challenges, Khanh Hoa has made good preparation for driving innovation and leading to positive socio-economic benefits and growth," Le Van De says.

Especially, the Department of Construction has been assigned to make and adjust the general planning of some urban areas in Nha Trang City and Cam Ranh City in order to promote investment, construction management and planning coverage.

The focus constructions are expected to promote the local economic growth. Particularly, Nha Trang City will gradually improve its infrastructures and expand to the west and south, according to the project approved by the Government.

Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee has focused on the requirement for sustainable development; and urban and social growth balance. The approved planning is required to meet the urban development demand as well as provide a considerable stimulus to investment appeal.

At present, in Khanh Hoa, there are 12 urban areas, including Nha Trang City known as the first-grade town; Cam Ranh City, the third-grade town; 3 fourth-grade towns namely Ninh Hoa, Dien Khanh (Dien Khanh District) and Van Gia (Van Ninh District); 4 fifth-grade towns namely Cam Duc (Cam Lam District), To Hap (Khanh Son District) and Truong Sa (Truong Sa Island District). 3 communes recognized to meet fifth-grade town criteria include Suoi Hiep (Dien Khanh District), Suoi Tan (Cam Lam District) and Dai Lanh (Van Ninh District).
