Dao Cong Thien, Deputy Chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People’s Committee grants certificates of merit to outstanding blood donors.

“About 10 years ago, when I visited my nephew at Ho Chi Minh City Oncology Hospital, I saw a child in need of blood transmission. He suffered from a severe pain caused by cancer. I decided to register for giving my blood to him. Luckily we had the same blood type. I was  so happy to see the child sound asleep in his mother’ arms after the transmission. Since then, I have donated blood for 40 times,” Vo Thi Muon (Cam Loi, Cam Ranh) recalls. Following her mother’s example, her two children have donated blood for over 15 times.

“During my time taking care of  my brother at the Hospital 115 in Ho Chi Minh City in 2000, I felt sad that that many poor patients could not afford blood transfusion. When back home, I decided to donate blood and register to join the Urgent Blood Donor Club,” says Vu Quang Hung in Cam Duc Town.

“Blood supply is always needed in case of unexpected accidents. Frequent volunteer blood donors ensure that blood is ready and available whenever and wherever it is needed,” he adds. His family with 4 people have donated over 65 units of blood so far. He himself has donated over 40 units.

3 siblings named Tran Duc Thang, Tran Duc Hoa, Tran Duc Loi in Cam Phuc Nam Ward, Cam Ranh City are all frequent blood donors. Their father named Tran Giang says, “Tran Duc Thang has encouraged his brothers to donate blood. At first, I disagreed because I thought it was harmful to their health. However, after a time, I found that it was not as I thought so I support them. Our children have donated 56 units of blood.”

Tran Duc Thang began to join blood donation in 2002 when he finished his military service. “It is not easy to encourage others to donate blood because not everyone knows the benefits of blood donation. However, I have tried my best and I can encourage some 30 people to donate blood every year,” he says.

Chau Thi Thuy Ha, Ninh Hiep Ward, Ninh Hoa Town has donated over 30 units of blood for 10 years. She has also encouraged over 20 others to join her work. Her family has been awarded certificates of merit for blood donation. She says, “I love to donate blood because I understand how sufficient supply of blood really means to patients." Her son has also followed her mother and encouraged two others to join the good deed.

Happy with simple thoughts that their blood may save other lives, all blood donors deserve great appreciation and praise.
