Khanh Hoa Medical College supported Son Thai Commune in building a herbal garden in 2014. This is considered as a valuable gift for local residents as they usually depend on medicinal plants and herbs for illness and many other health problems.

Vo Xuan Canh, Deputy Chairman of Son Thai Commune People’s Committee says, Khanh Hoa Medical College is one of the organizations helping the commune in poverty alleviation. The herbal garden has helped promote traditional medicine education.

According to Pham Van Hieu, a physician of the commune medical station, the garden has 65 kinds of medicinal plants logically grown in groups according to their remedies. They include groups for remedies for flu, fever, diarrhea, pain relief, petechial fever, hepatitis, etc. The commune has just put a safe water system into use, facilitating the cultivation of medicinal plants for medical treatment.

Though medicinal plants have been commonly used for a long time, many locals do not know exactly the use and treatment of some medicinal plants. The medical station has provided medical treatment and knowledge about medicinal plants, thus raising awareness of the traditional medicine and multiplication of medicinal plants in their gardens for the treatment of normal diseases and in case of emergencies.

Ha Len, Head of Son Thai Medical Station says local residents are encouraged to use common medicinal plants available in the district and avoid using the medicinal plants that they are not sure of their effects and treatment.

In the time to come, the commune medical station plans to continue boosting propaganda on the use of the traditional medicine and cultivation of medicinal plants; and supplementing new medicinal plants as the basis for seed provision and model herbal garden expansion for medical purposes.
