Funded by the project on medical support in southern central region, the 8-storey Cam Ranh General Hospital with 200 beds was put into use in March 2014. The total construction cost was over VND62 billion, 80% of which was from the project and the rest from the provincial reciprocal capital. Besides new infrastructures, financial assistance was also provided for the purchase of medical equipment, including 130 medical devices such as ambulances, color Doppler ultrasound scanners, X-ray detectors, etc worth over VND27 billion in total.
Similarly, Van Ninh District Medical Center was reconstructed and put into operation in February 2014. Partly funded by the project, the new building has 120 beds and is well-equipped with technical, medical air and waste treatment systems; air-conditioners together with ambulances, X-ray detectors. breathing machines and so on. “The infrastructure investment has helped to improve healthcare quality,” says Nguyen Hong Quang, Director of Cam Ranh General Hospital.
The project on medical support in southern central region implemented from 2009 to 2005 by the Ministry of Health and sponsored by Asian Development Bank (ADB) has benefited 8 cities and provinces, including Khanh Hoa. The total capital is USD80 million, including USD72 million from Official Development Assistance (ODA) provided by Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the rest from the national and provincial reciprocal capital.
The project has contributed to healthcare network promotion, including the construction and upgrading of infrastructures, medical waste management, labor force training and research support for thousands of medical staff, promotion of healthcare, access to medical services for those in disadvantaged areas, especially the poor, ethnic minority people, women and children.
The project on medical support in southern central region has been implemented in Khanh Hoa since 2009 with the total capital of over USD7.4 million, including USD 6.7 million from the Official Development Assistance (ODA) and the rest from the provincial reciprocal capital. Over the past 7 years, the project has provided over VND66.8 billion for the construction of 3 healthcare buildings and maintenance of 2 others together with 3 new ambulances, over 380 medical instruments, courses for thousands of health staff, etc.
Dr. Bui Xuan Minh, Director of Khanh Hoa Department of Health says over the past 7 years, the project has contributed to medical network in Khanh Hoa Province. Specifically, the project has helped upgrading medical infrastructures and improving access to medical services and thus improving the local healthcare quality. We hope to continue receiving much concern from the Ministry of Health as well as development assistance to further improve health care in Khanh Hoa Province.
