After a trail cultivation period, the tropical orchid garden of Khanh Hoa High Technology Agriculture Center is covered with a blanket of exotic yellow blossoms. The most eye-catching orchids include bangkhutin, pullmoon, banana yellow, chaopraya gold and so on.

The garden has up to over 71,000 orchid plants of all species with more than 9,000 seedlings in nurseries. Besides 4 main species of tropical orchids, the garden has conducted a research on Thai Rhynchostylis gigantea cultivation.
Within a half-month trial, the garden has harvested over 1,000 orchid stems selling at VND7,000 each. Yellow orchids is in high demand in Nha Trang at present.
According to Mai Xuan Thuong, Director of Khanh Hoa High Technology Agriculture Center, the VND22.3 billion orchid garden has been invested with orchid seedlings, an Israel technology economical spraying system, a shade house, firefighting equipment and so on. This has become one of the largest national high-tech tropical orchid gardens.
The garden promises to be a sight-seeing place as well as a local and regional seedling provider. The garden has also received many visitors from the provinces of Phu Yen, Lam Dong, Lai Chau and Nghe An.
A thorough market study has shown a high demand for decorative flowers and plants for houses, hotels, restaurants and public areas in Nha Trang, a tourist city, and other coastal communities. Therefore, many localities, particularly high-tech agricultural zones in Ho Chi Minh City are interested in tropical orchid cultivation, according to Mai Xuan Thuong.
In the time to come, the center plans to put some other tropical orchid species under trial cultivation, build some special care procedures for long lasting blossom with high pest resistance, etc. The center has strived to become a center for orchid cultivation and care training; scientific and mechanical transfer for farmers, step by step boosting tropical orchid cultivation to serve urban communities.
