Vinh Hiep Commune Women’s Association has created jobs for many disadvantaged women in the locality by offering financial support to expand the model of making fish-hook.
According to Nguyen Thi Xuan Thy, Chairman of Vinh Hiep Commune Women’s Association, in Vinh Diem Thuong Hamlet, the fish-hook production base of Ton Thi Ngoc Dung has worked quite efficiently. In recent years, this production base has not only provided products for the market in Khanh Hoa Province but also for ones in other provinces and cities like Phu Yen, Binh Dinh, Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City, etc. This model has created jobs for many local labors.

Reportedly, there is a huge demand for fish-hook in the summer and autumn. In the main production season, Dung’s base provides jobs for about 20-30 local labors, who are mostly the association’s members. Many pupils have also found their summer job at this production base. Thanks to the model of making fish-hook, many people and families have had a stable job with the monthly income of around VND3 millions.
According to Nguyen Thi Xuan Thy, making fish-hook is a job which has simple steps, does not require much physical effort as well as high professional skills, and offers stable income. This job is quite suitable for the female labors.
In the past, most of the association’s female members were farmers. However, nowadays, the agricultural land has shrunken; therefore, many members switched to do small business or work as maids, masons, etc.
After checking the small production bases and businesses in the commune, the women’s association helped Dung’s base to borrow money to promote production. Specifically, in 2010, Dung’s family borrowed VND10 million to develop their business and create jobs for local labors. Since this fish-hook production base operated efficiently, in 2014, the association continued to lend Dung VND20 million to expand the production scale.
“In the up coming time, the association will continue to check and offer financial supports to the members who have well-operated production bases and businesses, which will help more disadvantaged members and women in the locality to have jobs,” said Thy.
