The VNEN model has been implemented in Khanh Hoa since the school year 2011-2012 with the participation of 23/194 primary schools so far. Additional 20 primary schools are expected to take part in the new educational model in the academic year 2015-2016.

Nguyen Thi Anh Tuyet, Vice Principal of Dien Dien Primary School, Dien Khanh District says in a VNEN class, all pupils work in groups under the management of a group leader and the guidance of the teacher. The learning model promotes classroom interaction and thus makes the learning environment more interesting. Children all have chances to present and exchange ideas. The learner –centered method helps students to be more active and confident.

The student-centered approach aims at improving teaching and learning capacity in primary schools by stimulating children’s independence and creativity. The VNEN model helps to increase education quality as well as class attendance, according to Ha Van Thong, Chief of the Primary Education Division, Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training.

However, the cooperation between schools and students’ parents is required to make the model successful. Khanh Hoa Department of Education & Training has instructed Divisions of Education & Training to provide training for schools taking part in the VNEN model in the 2015-2016 school year.

According to Hoang Thi Ly, Deputy Director of Khanh Hoa Education & Training Department, VNEN is a large education project developed by the Ministry of Education & Training in association with the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

The project seeks to effectively promote students' self-management and self-determination skills by helping to bring about a system-wide transformation through pedagogical innovation. The model does not change the curricular but changes class organization and teaching methods. Accordingly, the evaluation of teachers and students has changed. Under the VNEN model, teachers are evaluated mainly through students’ activities.
