When the delegation came, the building of Ba Cum Nam Commune People’s Committee was crowded with patients waiting for medical examination from early in the morning. Cao Van Buoc, a paralyzed man in Hon Gam Village says, “Whenever volunteer doctors of the 87 Hospital come to my village, my relative takes me here for a medical check-up.”

Tro Thi Hieu, Ka To Village, says, “My 3-year-old child has had an upset stomach for 6 months, but I don’t take him to the hospital because I'm afraid that I can’t afford the fees. I am very happy to receive the charity examination. Doctors say my child is suffering from an infestation of worms and he will be better after some days of treatment.”

65-year-old Cao Van Khanh, Hon Gam Village has been suffering from stomachache, backache and asthma for many years. “Army doctors are so friendly and familiar. I am grateful to their enthusiastic guidance and support. Now my cough and stomachache have been much relieved now,” he says.

According to Colonel Vo Quang Trung, a political commissar of the 87 Hospital, the activity program began in 1999. This year, 22 physicians volunteer to join the trip, giving examination and medication to 420 residents. Besides, gifts were sent to the needy. The charity trip was worth approximately VND35 million in total. In addition, the delegation granted presents to policy beneficiaries and provided education on reproductive health care for local women.

Trinh Viet Thang, Colonel, PhD, Vice-Director of the 87 Hospital says, “After several years taking the trip, I find diseases the local residents often suffer from include degenerative bone disease, high blood pressure, tonsillitis, dermatological diseases, etc. Apart from medical examination, physicians provide counseling on heath care and disease prevention.

Nguyen Minh Thanh, Chairman of Ba Cum Nam Commune People’s Committee says, “I hope this  practical and meaningful work will be maintained to further contribute to the local heath care service.”
