Khanh Hoa Department of Natural Resources & Environment and the Southern Institute of Ecology jointly held a workshop on July 30 on the protection of the yellow-cheeked gibbon or Hylobates gabriellae on the south-east mountain side of Lang Biang Highland.
According to the Southern Institute of Ecology, there are 6 kinds of gibbons in Vietnam. The yellow-cheeked gibbon contains about 1,000 individuals mostly distributed on Lang Biang Highland. Bordered by the provinces of Dak Lak, Lam Dong and Ninh Thuan, the forest corridor in Khanh Hoa can be linked to protect the yellow-cheeked gibbon and other rare species.
At the workshop, representatives gave suggestions on methods to effectively protect the yellow-cheeked gibbon and other kinds of gibbons under cooperation regulations and Lang Biang Biosphere Reserve expansion approved by the UNESCO.
